Better Energy strengthens presence in Finland’s renewable energy transition
Better Energy has opened the doors to a new office in Helsinki, Finland. The office will be shared with Better Energy’s Finnish developer partner, Forus. The partnership sees a synergy between its ambitions and Finland’s vision for green transition and energy independence.
The new office space will be shared with Better Energy’s developing partner in Finland, Forus, and it is located in the heart of Helsinki’s business district, providing a central location for the partnership to engage with landowners, potential PPA partners and other stakeholders.
Better Energy and Forus started their partnership in 2021 and are now strengthening by unveiling the new joint office in Helsinki. Together they have built a strong pipeline of 2.4 GW of solar parks in Finland.
Partnering to accelerate the Finnish renewable energy transition
Through the partnership, the parties will develop, construct, and manage solar parks across Finland and strive to increase the supply of renewable energy throughout Europe. Drawing on their experience and expertise, both companies are committed to building solar parks in the most sustainable way.
With the intent to roll out more than 1GW of large-scale solar parks in Finland, Forus will combine its inherent knowledge of the Finnish market with Better Energy’s experience in executing all phases of solar park development. This will see Forus oversee project management and liaise with landowners, while Better Energy will design, construct and manage the solar parks. Both companies are committed to prioritising community engagement and biodiversity throughout the development process.
“Increasing solar energy is really important to Finland in order to reduce emissions, create new jobs and attract new investments. We believe that Better Energy is the best partner for scaling solar in Finland in the most responsible way,” said Eero Oksanen, the CEO of Forus. “We’re excited to take the next steps to tap into the potential of the Finnish market and create value for its communities.”
“It has been an exciting journey to get this far developing a strong pipeline of projects, and now we are ready for the real work of executing and getting proof-of-concept in the Finnish market,” said Michael Vater, Co-Founder and Board Member of Better Energy. “The new office will allow us to effectively and efficiently align and collaborate on projects that will generate much-needed renewable energy for Finland.”
Finland currently relies on importing a significant portion of its electricity, and like much of Europe, felt the strain of rising energy prices in 2022. Solar power is among the cheapest forms of energy and the fastest to deploy in scale. Increasing solar production will ensure the country has even better access to affordable and clean energy.
