Telia and Telenor have entered into a Power Purchase Agreement with Better Energy that ensures 125 GWh of new green and subsidy-free electricity will be added to the Danish electricity grid. Because of the agreement, Better Energy will build a new solar park, which is expected to be grid connected within 2-3 years. The solar park will supply green energy to Telia and Telenor’s mobile network, as the agreement will cover approximately 75 % of the companies’ power consumption related to the network.
Telenor and Telia have just signed a large Power Purchase Agreement with Better Energy, which ensures the construction of new green power production in the form of a solar park, which is expected to be completed and operational by the end of 2024.
Over a ten-year period, Telenor and Telia will offtake 125 GWh per year, which covers around 75 % of the power consumption for the companies’ mobile networks or an amount that corresponds to the average annual power consumption of around 78,000 Danes.
“With the agreement, we are taking a major and important step towards Telenor’s goal of being 100 % CO2 neutral by 2030. We must act swiftly and decisively if we are to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, and we are very pleased that we are expanding the pool of green energy in Denmark with this agreement,” says Lars Thomsen, CEO of Telenor Denmark.
“Today, CO2 emissions from the operation of the mobile network account for about a third of our total emissions. That’s why we’re committed to provide the best possible networking services with the smallest possible carbon footprint. With the agreement, we contribute significantly to the expansion of renewable energy production, which is completely in line with Telia’s ambition of zero emissions by 2030”, says Petr Cermak, CEO of Telia Denmark.
Power Purchase with direct effect on the green transition
Companies can make a direct difference by buying new, green, and subsidy-free energy that significantly reduces CO2 emissions and at the same time has a real effect on the supply of additional green power electricity. Better Energy welcomes the new collaboration that can accelerate positive change:

The solar park is scheduled to be connected to the grid in 2024. Better Energy owns and is responsible for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the coming park.
